Rental and House Price ranges

Renting Price range as at (November 2009)

I have had a few requests for the cost of rentals in various cities and performed searches for rentals and placed them in a price range across all cities.

Typical average rentals, depending on the city are:

  • 4 bed house $450 – $650
  • 3 bed freestanding house $350 – $600
  • 3 bed townhouse $350 – $520
  • 2 bed freestanding house $320 – $550
  • 2 bed townhouse $250 – $450
  • 2 bed apartment $250 – $450
  • 1 bed flat $190 – $250
  • one room in shared accommodation $100 – $200

These numbers may change in the following six months, due to the economic situation…

Average House Purchase Price in Australia (November 2009):

You may wondering what the purchase price of a house is, well I used the real estate websites again and found the average house prices in the major cities from highest to lowest are:

  • Sydney $550,000
  • Melbourne $475,000
  • Brisbane $425,000
  • Adelaide $400,000
  • Perth $480,000
  • Darwin $450,000
  • Canberra $485,000
  • Hobart $320,000

House prices are still increasing a % per annum, unsure of exact figures and mortgage rates are at about 5.7% at the moment (November 2009), however Melbourne Cup Day may bring an interest rise of 0.25%…
